Intent - Developing skilled musicians at Hindhayes:
Hindhayes School music curriculum offers a coherently planned sequence of lessons to help teachers ensure they have progressively covered the skills and concepts required in the National Curriculum. We aim to develop musical skills and concepts which are transferable to whatever area of music is being studied and will equip children for future learning. These key musical skills and concepts, which are revisited throughout different units, are:
The coverage will include the different aspects of the music curriculum focusing on duration, pulse and rhythm, pitch, dynamics and tempo.
Cultural Capital
On entry into school we have observed that many children do not have a wide range of musical experiences. We aim to build on their knowledge, primarily of popular music, and develop this so they leave our school having experienced a diverse and exciting range of musical opportunities. These will include topic-based activities such as Bollywood dancing or African drumming workshops. The children will have performance opportunities throughout their school life through singing assemblies, Y2 leaving assembly and our annual nativity performances which take place in the concert hall at Millfield school.
